Cyber-security is defined as ways of protecting computer systems against threats such as viruses. In business sense its the protection of valuable intellectual property and business information in digital form against theft and misuse.
Companies must now defend themselves from ‘cyber-attacks’. Cyber-criminals or even an upset employee could be responsible for this. Companies are now at risk because of these cyber-criminals are accessing and releasing sensitive information or even taking intellectual property to competitors or the public.
Many incidents go unnoticed, but we have seen recently very public breaches to some sophisticated companies technology. Corporations must constantly adapt to their environment by keeping up to date with cyber-security. All employees must abide by this… including making sure the CEO and other seniors protect critical business information. In the last 5 years large companies have shown that they have been making positive changes to dramatically strengthen their cyber-security effectiveness. USB ports have started to be disabled and email services blocked to try and protect information.
