If a third-party company has an important account from a client company where confidentiality is key, it is important to not only keep that data and information safe from the wrong hands, but also important in keeping the name of client company they have confidential to the outside world. The main reason for this is to make it harder for outside sources to find who has this information and who is handling those customer accounts for any given company.

All of the workers who have knowledge of this account and are dealing with customers of that customer account will have to sign a confidentiality agreement which prevents them from sharing the nature of the work they are doing with anybody outside work, and in some cases those in other departments within the same company; if they breech this they could be in serious trouble if there is a breech that is serious and links back to them.

Often larger companies use marketing companies to handle their inbound and outbound calls, and they will answer the phones with the name of their client’s company, or chase leads and tell potential customers they care calling from the client company, rather than the actual marketing/call centre company they work for. This is a great way to protect otherwise sensitive information and makes it a lot harder for other companies and individuals to hack, or mine for pieces of sensitive information from various data sources.

Data protection is also important for sensitive projects across various industries where it is important to keep details of that project secret so that project or aspects of it and any ideas or designs are not stolen and copied by other companies and individuals.
