Security measures have taken huge changes over the past few years. These changes have helped to make large events feel safer than they ever have done before. Today, we are going to discuss some of the changes that have taken place, and why they have occurred.

Firstly, we have seen extra bag checks and searches taking place at large events. As well as the use of metal detectors. This is to ensure nobody is taking in any unwanted items into events. These tighter and more thorough checks began after the unfortunate bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in May 2017.

Another change that can be seen at events all over the nation regardless of their size is new temperature checks. These are to ensure no one that may be unwell is entering the premises. This check came into action in late 2020, following the global pandemic of COVID-19. With one of the symptoms being a high temperature, if you arrived with a high temperature you would not be able to attend the event.

Alongside all of these extra checks taking place, we have also seen changes to how security guards work. With them no longer physically touching your bag to prevent the spread of Covid-19. You are now asked to hold your bag open whilst they check it with a stick, as well as place it through an x-ray machine. You will also find the security personnel is wearing face coverings and gloves at all times. This is again to help protect themselves and others by ensuring germs are not spread from person to person.

These are some of the main ways in which security measures have changed over the past few years. It is important to remember, whilst they may be a pain to go through, they are in place to protect us and keep us as safe as possible whilst in their area.
