The amount of home fires is astonishing. So, today we are going to share with you some basic home fire safety tips, helping you to keep your home and family safe.

Only Battle The Fire If You Feel Safe To Do So
Fires can progress quickly and aggressively. You should only ever considering battling a fire in your home if you feel safe and capable to do so. Yes, you have your personal belongings in your home, but you do not want to put your life in danger. Calling the fire brigade will be your best option for saving your personal goods.

Do Not Plug Loads In To Outlets
It is scary how many homes you can enter that will have multiple items plugged into one socket. Using one extension cable is okay. But you shouldn’t pile these on top of each other to create more plug sockets for you. This is a serious fire hazard and one of the most common causes of fires.

Establish An Escape Route
Like in workplaces and schools, in your home, you should have an escape route planned for if a fire was to occur. Practising this often with your children, to ensure that if the alarm was to ever be set off, you would all know exactly where to go.

Check Your Smoke Alarm Batteries
We can’t emphasise this enough. Check your smoke alarm batteries monthly! You never know when a fire may occur. Checking the batteries monthly helps to ensure that your fire alarm is working effectively, and will work if a fire was to occur.
